I’m studying the development of the nervous system right now… and I’m reading about how cells differentiate and become neurons… it involves a protein called, “Sonic Hedgehog” I had to read it twice… and then I looked it up and it is actually named after Sonic the Hedgehog.
If something goes awry with this “Sonic Hedgehog” it can cause deformities such as having two faces…  according to wikipedia….
Some clinicians and scientists criticize giving genes frivolous, whimsical, or quirky names, calling it inappropriate that patients with “a serious illness or disability are told that they or their child have a mutation in a gene such as Sonic hedgehog.”
